DON'T GET LOCKED OUT BY 'SOLD OUT' FESTIVAL TICKETS

A few weeks ago Electric Forest tickets went on sale, and within the first few hours were gone entirely, much to the irritation of thousands of people who had wanted to have their shot at going to this amazing event in the summer. Scrolling through the comments on the Electric Forrest Instagram after the sell out was incredibly illuminating. There were hundreds of comments left by people who were unable to get a ticket, and one thing was obvious: they were pissed. So, I decided to put together a few little tips to ensure that this never happens to you again,

MIXING, SAFE OR A HORRIBLE IDEA?

As I have recently been taking a short course of medication that prevents me from drinking, I have become more and more aware of what going on around me at events. It’s amazing what being dead sober will do for your powers of observation when you are at a club or party, and recently I have noticed a lot of people mixing. Now you may be wondering what I mean by that so let me explain. When I say mixing I mean, mixing drugs like MDMA and liquor, mixing excessive amounts of caffeine and alcohol, as well as mixing multiple types of substances along with alcohol.

CLUB EXX IS KILLING THE WINTER FASHION GAME

This week has been a particularly chilly one in Los Angeles, which combined with some beautiful pictures of a snow-dusted Lake Tahoe got me once again thinking about Snow Globe, which I will be attending in a few weeks. Mostly, it got me thinking about my outfits. However, when the Snow Globe wristbands come with a warning to wear thermals and waterproof boots, the usual bikini bottoms and pasties aren’t going to cut it. Thankfully, the Club Exx Snow Globe and Winter range has to become of the most amazing winter festival fashion I have seen.

YOU SHOULD BE BRINGING PERFUME TO RAVES

You should be bringing perfume with you to raves (and clubs) for one obvious reason: it can get kind of smelly. Yes, hopefully, everyone is wearing deodorant, but even then it is pretty hard not to get a little stinky. Hours of sweating because of dancing to amazing music and walking around to see all of the cool installations and photo ops can make even the most sweat proof outfits a little grow. This is where having perfume on hand is a wonderful idea.

@CURVYRAVEBABES IS BRINGING SOME MUCH NEEDED INCLUSIVITY TO RAVE FASHION

Despite the accepting and open nature of the rave community at large, it would be impossible to say that when it comes to size inclusivity in festival fashion, there isn’t any work that needs to be done. Though plus size ravers may not face active attacks online or at events, where festival fashion is concerned they are consistently ignored, and occasionally dismissed. With three thousand plus followers and counting, “Curvy Rave Babes” is attempting to right some of these wrongs.

RAVES AND PACIFIERS

I have a weird fixation on pacifiers in rave culture. This interest began when I started to notice a trend of including iconography of and actual pacifiers on jewelry, clothing, and other gear sold at DOLLS KILL, which is you haven’t figured it out already, is my favorite retailer. As a so-called ‘new-school’ raver, this was my first introduction to them having only ever noticed one or two at an actual event. However, once I started looking for them when I went to events I started to notice more and more people with one little string around their neck as more than just a fashion statement.

ADDING ACCESSORIES TO YOUR RAVE LOOK

Accessorizing is hard. Even when It comes to average, everyday looks, finding the perfect necklace, belt or really anything can become a pretty tricky guessing game. When I first started putting together festival looks, I would always struggle to find accessories to take it from a look to a LOOK. The hardest thing about dressing for a festival is that you need to find the right mix of style and function. Even if you aren’t big into dancing aggressively, you will still need to be able to walk, and hell if a real banger starts playing, don’t you want to have the option to dance without stuff getting in the way?

DITCH YOUR RAVE GUM FOR A LOLLIPOP OR TWENTY

Chewing gum gives you jaw something to do that isn’t clenching down like no body’s business. However, some people have reported that even chewing gum isn’t helping with the clenching and that the extra focus on working your jaw all night might actually leave you in more pain the next day. It is easy to see how, while preventing you from the pain of clenching too hard, constantly chewing could end up leaving your jaw exhausted, especially over the course of two or three days. That is where lollipops (and other hard candies) can come into play. If this sounds strange, let me explain.

YOU NEED A FAUX FUR RAVE COAT

You need a faux fur rave coat. You may not think you need one, but you defiantly do. The faux fur coat is a staple of the festival fashion wardrobe for a few reasons, and as we move into winter (and eventually the early spring festival season) now is the perfect time to invest in one. A good fur coat is going to keep you warm at night when the temperature drops, but it is also a perfect way to make a boring outfit look amazing.

UP YOUR RAVE HAIR GAME

If you are anything like me, you are probably really good at picking out a fantastic outfit, but then have zero ideas what to do with your hair. If you are literally me, then instead of attempting anything you say “oh I'll just leave it down, because that will be fine,” only to realize when your hair looks like a disaster in every single photo from the event, that it was definitely not fine. Because I am tired of having a good picture ruined with bad hair, I have decided to do some research into how we can all up our rave hair game.

THE SLIME GREEN FESTIVAL FASHION EDIT

Given that it dominated festy fashion, I wanted to take the time to round up some of the best items I have found featuring the iconic shade this year: Slime Green. All of the links to the featured products are below, so if you see something you like, go get it! Like millennial pink, I have no doubt that this amazing color is going to rule the scene for a year or two more before another color comes for its throne.

2018 RAVER GIFT GUIDE

Christmas is fast approaching, and if you are a last minute shopper like me, you are probably already starting to freak out about what to get the people in your life for Christmas. If that wasn't enough, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are going to be the best days for deals this holiday so hopefully many of the items listed here will be on sale and even less then the currently listed prices. I may not be able to help you shop for your grandma, but here is a gift guide for the raver babe in your life (or maybe just some cool gift ideas for yourself).

IF YOU HAVEN’T, GO WATCH "I'LL SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD"

Of all the things that I thought I needed, a documentary about Steve Aoki wasn’t one of them, which is why I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead really took me by surprise. The film, currently streaming on Netflix, follows DJ Steve Aoki as he jets around the world to perform, works on finishing his album “Neon Future” and deals with the loss of his father.

CLUB SHOWS, WORTH IT?

I know that this website is mostly focused on music festivals and one of a kind events, but after an experience I had a few weekends ago, I wanted to take a minute to talk about club shows, more specifically, to ask if they were worth it? I have been asking myself this question for quite a few weeks. Recently I have found that there may be more negatives than positives when it comes to going to the club on Saturday night.

WHY I RAVE SOLO

Raving Solo is one of my favorite things to do, which I know sounds kind of crazy, especially to people who usually go to festivals with big groups of friends or their rave fam. I will say, I have been to events with big groups as well as with a single friend or two, and though I always have a great time, I don’t think it compares to the time that I spend at an event by myself. Let me explain.

ROLLING SAFE

Like everything, MDMA can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. It isn’t evil or inherently dangerous, but it is a substance that can cause a great deal of harm to those who don’t know how to use it safely. In this article, I am going to break down the different types of MDMA, what to be on the lookout for, and how to recover well.
