Feb 21 TAKING A BREAK FROM DOLLSKILL: TIBBS & BONES

I think you all know that I go hard in the paint for Dolls Kill, but recently I have started trying to turn attention towards other places for us festival fashionistas looking to bring something a little bit different into our closets to check out. This is how I discovered what I can only describe as Dolls Kill's badass Australian cousin who is always slaying wherever she goes. I am talking about Tibbs & Bones, an Australian company that sells everything you need for festival season and even some things you didn't know you needed, but definitely do.

Tibbs & Bones started as a shop selling vintage clothing, but after experience a surge in popularity they started selling festival items from small independent brands around Australia and even internationally. Though they have grown this commitment to small brands is apparent from taking a little look around the site, where it is easy to stumble across gems from brands you have probably never heard of, which is half the joy of a site like this.

They carry their own label as well as some other well-known brands like Demonia, Lipt Label and Jaded London. I think one of the coolest things about them is that they carry quite a few things that you can't find anywhere else, even at Dolls Kill, and their funky sense of style is clear in their product selection. You can find wild prints, fabulous accessories, and tons of small brands that are sure to become your new favorites. Now one of the main things I like about Tibbs & Bones is that ther have a wide variety of accessories like fanny packs and backpacks, sunglasses, and even socks, all of which bring something a little different to the table. Pretty much everything they have in these categories is super reasonably priced, and unlike anything, I have been able to find (even at dolls kill in some cases).

If you were only going to look through one of the many sections, they have available I would take a look at the accessories tab, because I think this is where they really shine. They carry some pretty amazing earrings and sunglasses, but the socks are all must-haves. If you are someone who likes to wear sneakers to your events, then you need to go check out some of the socks they have, because they can take any boring pair of white sneakers to new levels of cool, and also who doesn't need more socks? I have about a hundred pairs and can never find more than two at a time myself.

I think that one of the standout things about the store is the palpabale air of fun coming off of it as you scroll through. It is brightly colorful, and carefree aesthetic that also makes the online store, so fun to explore. The product photos aren't clinical and clean, but instead, make you feel like you are looking through a friends accessories she has been kind enough to let you borrow for your next event. Earrings are displayed on fluffy pink background and models, or all shapes and sizes pose in fron of graffitied walls straight out of a trendy part of town.

All in all, if you are looking for a break from Dolls Kill and the brands that they carry, I would recommend you check out Tibbs & Bones and some of the smaller brands that they help to support. Festival Fashion is all about being unique, and I believe that a large part of that involves helping small business. Yeah it can be nice to see larger brands making their way into festival fashion, but I think it is important to remember that the culture is rooted in small business and that for many people it isn't just a cash grab but a love of creating fun, kooky clothing, that they would want to wear themselves.
