RECOVERING FROM A FESTIVAL

So, You made it to the end of the weekend! Maybe it was one day, maybe you had four days and three nights of fun. Either way, now it is time to get back to the real world, and that means recovering from whatever you may have indulged in.

While everyone recovers differently, here are a few things you can do to make the transition back into the normal world a little less painful.

  1. Rehydrate

You will have lost a lot of electrolytes whether from dancing and moving around, drinking, or just hanging out in the heat. Making sure that your body has the fluids necessary to recover is very important.

By Rehydrating I don’t just mean drinking water. Have a gatorade or any other sports drink.

  2. Eat

It’s easy to get so swept out in the magic of an event and forget to give your body what it needs. Make sure to eat! Even if you are a ‘stand-in-place and bop-your-head” kind of dancer, you will have burned off a ton of calories just walking around the event, and you need to replenish your nutrients.

  3. Pop a Vitamin (or Two)

If you don’t already take a multivitamin (you really should if you don’t) make sure to pick one up from the pharmacy. For a good recovery, it is important that your body is getting the vitamins it needs. Even if you are the healthiest person on the planet, it doesn’t hurt to take a vitamin or two.

  4. Rest

REST. I know that’s the most basic piece of advice ever, but you need to take it easy. Even if you don’t feel tired at all the next day, your body will eventually crash if you don’t give it time to recover. Take a bubble bath, have a nap, lay on the couch and watch TV. You basically just ran a marathon, it’s okay to take it easy for a while.

After the festival high, it often can be extremely difficult to get back to the real world. Post-festival depression is 100% real and hard to dodge, but helping your body recover will definitely help lessen the blow. If worst comes to worst and all the rest, rehydration, and vitamins in the world aren’t helping you to recover, then I suggest starting on step 5.

5. Start Planning the Next One

If the post-festival blues have got you down and nothing seems to help, start planning the next one! Nothing helps get your mind off how great your last festival was like thinking about how great the next one will be.
